Coat of arms and motto

Episcopal coat of arms

Blazon : The split coat of arms, split at the top, shows the Mainz wheel (for the diocese of Mainz) on a red background at the top and a slanted silver key with the beard pointing towards the heraldic top right, accompanied by eight golden diamonds (coat of arms of the former diocese Worms ). In the lower silver shield three blue waves that symbolize the river Rhine. The Rhine connects Mainz and Worms with Kohlgraf's hometown Cologne. In addition, the river reminds of the life-giving and healing stream of Christian faith flowing through history, arising in baptism (cf. ( Ezekiel 47  EU )). Behind the coat of arms the golden episcopal cross. Above it the green episcopal prelate hat with twelve hanging tassels. Under the coat of arms in the banner the motto of the bishop: Appropinquavit Regnum Dei - The kingdom of God has come near ( Lk 10.9  EU ).
