The episcopal ordination donated to him on September 8, 2002 at Paderborn Cathedral Joachim Wanke , Bishop of Erfurt , as well as the co-consecrators Hans-Josef Becker , the former diocesan administrator and Auxiliary Bishop of Paderborn and later archbishop of Paderborn, and Paul Consbruch , Auxiliary Bishop of Paderborn. Wiesemann's motto is Maior omni laude (“greater than all praise”).

In addition to his office as auxiliary bishop in Paderborn, he was also active in the training of priests and for the congregation for institutes of consecrated life and for societies of apostolic life . In 2003 he was appointed cathedral capital. From 2004 he was Episcopal Vicar for the training of priests and vocations as well as for society, science and culture.

In 2004 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno and invested in the Papal Lay Order on April 24, 2004 by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

On July 1, 2017, Wiesemann celebrated the pontifical requiem for the late Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl in the presence of 1,500 invited guests, including numerous (former) high-ranking German and international government representatives . Episcopal coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Bishop of Speyer

The personal coat of arms is quartered . In field  1 it shows the diocese coat of arms of Speyer as a silver cross on a blue background, and diagonally in field 4 as a gold cross on a red background, the “Paderborn Cross” of the home diocese of Wiesemann. In field 2 there is a harp on a golden background as David's instrument for the sung praise of God and the love of music, in field 3 three heart-shaped water lily leaves symbolize the Holy  Trinity and at the same time the coat of arms of Enger , the home town of the bishop.

His Latin motto MAIOR OMNI LAUDE (“Greater than all praise”) is the centerpiece of the second stanza from the Eucharistic hymn Lauda Sion , which comes from Thomas Aquinas . This indicates that the Bishop is entrusted in a special way with the mystery of the Eucharist , by which the Church lives. It must be his concern that the praise of God does not fall silent in his churches.
