Episcopal coat of arms and motto

Coat of arms as auxiliary bishop

As auxiliary bishop in Mainz

Bishop Neymeyr's coat of arms is in blue and white ( silver ). The three points in the upper part of the shield belong to the coat of arms of the Dalberg family, who had their seat in Herrnsheim Castle . They are part of the coat of arms of Neymeyr's place of birth and hometown Worms- Herrnsheim .

The two fish shown in the lower area of the coat of arms are an ancient symbol for Jesus Christ. The Greek letters of the word fish Ichtys stand for Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. In the shape of a cross, they remind us that Jesus Christ redeemed the world through his death on the cross. In addition, Saint Ulrich , the namesake of the bishop, is always depicted with a fish.

His episcopal motto is Christ suscepit nos ("Christ has accepted us") ( Rom 15.7  EU ).

Coat of arms as the bishop of Erfurt

As Bishop of Erfurt

With his inauguration as Bishop of Erfurt, Ulrich Neymeyr acquired a new coat of arms. This is in gold, silver and red. The three peaks in the upper part of the shield, which are reminiscent of his birthplace and hometown Worms-Herrnsheim, have been preserved. By Karl Theodor von Dalberg , of the family of the eunuchs of Worms , here an additional connection to his new diocese created. The Mainz wheel , which appears in the diocese and city arms of Mainz as well as in the city arms of Erfurt, connects two stages in the life of the bishop. The key in turn comes from the coat of arms of the city of Worms, the home town of the bishop, which - like the old diocese of Worms - has St. Peter as its patron.

Neymeyr took his motto from his time as auxiliary bishop.
