Heinrich Timmerevers (born August 25, 1952 in Nikolausdorf / Garrel ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Dresden-Meißen .

Origin and education

Heinrich Timmerevers was born the second of six children to a farming family. In 1972 he graduated from the Clemens-August-Gymnasium in Cloppenburg . He then began studying theology and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and joined the Konvikt Collegium Borromaeum . He continued his studies in 1974 at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1975 he moved back to Münster and finished his studies there in 1977. In the Münster seminary he came into contact with the Focolare Movement . From 1977 to 1978 he attended a course in Focolare Spirituality in Rome.

Priestly work

On May 25, 1980 Timmer Evers received in the Great Cathedral in Munster the priesthood by the then Bishop of Münster Reinhard Lettman . From 1980 to 1984 he was vicar in St. Vitus Visbek . In 1984 he became sub-director at the Collegium Borromaeum in Münster and cathedral vicar at St. Paulus Cathedral. In 1990 he returned to Visbek as a pastor , where he had also been active since 1993 as the state chaplain and state president of the kfd in the Oldenburg official district. From 2000 he was also the parish administrator of the parish of St. Antonius in Visbek.

On September 2 of the same year, Timmerevers received the episcopal ordination by Reinhard Lettmann in the cathedral in Münster. Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop Werner Thissen from Münster and the auxiliary bishop emeritus and Timmerevers' predecessor in the office of the Oldenburg official Max Georg Freiherr von Twickel . Timmerevers chose “Seek where Christ is” as the motto . In 2002 he was accepted as a non-resident cathedral chapter in the Münster cathedral chapter .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Dresden-Meißen on April 29, 2016 . The inauguration took place on August 27 of the same year.

Work in the German Bishops' Conference

In the German Bishops' Conference Timmerevers was a member of the youth commission from 2001 to 2009 . He is currently a member of the Pastoral Commission and the Commission for Spiritual Professions and Church Services . Since 2008 he has been chairman of the “Institutes of Consecrated Life” working group. In 2012 the Bishops' Conference appointed him at the request of the Malteser Presidium to be the national chaplain of the Malteser Aid Service . Timmerevers has been chaplain of the Order of Malta since 2011 .
