The Mariendorfer Hockey Club 1931 eV is a hockey club with around 320 members from the Mariendorf district of Berlin of the same name .

History and general

Since it was founded on August 4, 1931, the club has had its sporting home in Volkspark Mariendorf , where an artificial turf pitch has been available since 1999 .

By 1933, the Mariendorfer Hockey Club, which played in yellow and black, was able to set up a women's team, a girls 'and a boys' team in addition to the men. By the Second World War, the number of registered teams rose to nine. After the war, three Berlin men's championships in 1970, 1971 on the field and 1973 in the hall represented a first high point. After a dry spell, he won the Berlin championship of the first men in 1988 and 1990. After reunification, the MHC won in 1991 the East German Championship played for the first time. In 1993, after another East German championship, promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga field followed.

The club did not achieve these successes on the natural grass pitch in the Volkspark, where only lower teams played, but on the artificial grass created in 1982 on Markgrafenstrasse. With the construction of a club house in 1996 and the completion of the artificial turf pitch in the Volkspark, the MHC is now reunited at the old site. In terms of sport, things have been uphill for the men, especially in the hall in recent years. In 2003 the team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, a year later even to the Bundesliga . Since then, the MHC has been commuting between the 1st and 2nd league, in the 07/08 season it played in the 2nd Bundesliga. After relegation to the regional league in the 2008/09 indoor season, the East German championship title and the simultaneous direct return to the 2nd Bundesliga were celebrated on March 7, 2010. On the same day, the club's women's team also celebrated the East German championship title and the associated promotion to the first division.

In the indoor season 2010/11 the men were able to celebrate the march through to the 1st indoor Bundesliga and in the season 2011/12 they even managed to stay up. Up to this point, only very few teams had succeeded in doing this.

In the 2011/12 field season, the 1st men's team achieved promotion to the 2nd field league for the first time in 20 years by winning the East German Championship, from which they were relegated again in the 2016/17 season.

Currently, in the 2018/19 field season, the men are again playing in the 2nd field league and the women in the Regionalliga Ost.

The old logo of the Mariendorfer HC, used until 2009

In the course of the presentation of a future concept by the board of the association, a new logo was introduced in 2009. This logo picks up on the tradition of the founding teams who wore the clover leaf on their jerseys. The new logo should combine old traditions and future-oriented ideas.
