The Berliner Hockey Club is a German Hockey - Tennis - and (since 2007) Lacrosse - Sports Club of Berlin-Zehlendorf . The club is one of the most successful hockey clubs in Germany.
The flagship of the BHC, which has produced various national hockey players, are the two national league hockey teams in the women's and men's areas.
history
The Berlin Hockey Club was founded on November 5, 1905 in a restaurant on Kurfürstenstrasse. In 1912 it was possible to lease its own club premises on Hüttenweg. Eleven tennis courts, a hockey stadium and other hockey fields were built, at that time still outside the gates of Berlin. This facility was confiscated by the Allies in 1945. In the course of the allied licensing process for sports clubs, the BHC merged with the Zehlendorfer Wespen in 1946 , until the community was dissolved again in 1951. In 1955 the club finally moved to Wilskistraße and was able to inaugurate a new clubhouse in today's thatched changing room for the 50th anniversary.
In 1967, today's clubhouse was built, which was expanded again in the early 1990s and completely renovated from 2007 to 2008. The two-field tennis hall was also built at the beginning of the 1990s. Together with the one-field hall, which was set up for the first time in 1969 and renovated in 1987, the BHC has since had three tennis courts under air dome structures during the winter. Since the 2016/17 winter season, the BHC has been playing in a new three-field air dome.
On April 2, 2010, a new hockey stadium with a roofed grandstand and a total capacity of up to 1500 visitors was officially opened on the sports facility of the Ernst Reuter Stadium. Around the opening there was a four-nation tournament for the juniors and the European Cup for women with twelve participating clubs from Europe.
In the 2011/12 season of the field hockey Bundesliga , the BHC men managed to win a title for the first time in 47 years after defeating Rot-Weiss Köln 2-1 at home .
The Berliner HC has been led by President Dirk Gaßmann, Vice President Ewald Münch and Treasurer Alexander Martin since March 20, 2019. President Dirk Gassmann is a full-time human resources officer in the Bundestag. He spent his active hockey time as assistant coach of the reserve team.
