Martin Häner (born August 27, 1988 in Berlin ) is a German hockey player .

Career

Häner has been active in the youth teams of the DHB since 2003 . In 2006 he finished second with the German team at the U21 European Championship, followed two years later by third place, and at the 2009 Junior World Championship, Häner won the title with the German selection. He made his debut on July 30, 2005 in the German national hockey team . The defender and penalty corner specialist has been part of the national team's squad since he finished second at the 2009 European Championship . At the end of 2009 he and the German team only lost to the Australian hosts in the final of the Champions Trophy . The German team also lost to the Australians in the final of the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi. At the 2011 European Championships in Mönchengladbach, Häner won the title with the German team. The following year, Häner won with the German team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In 2013 he became European champion again .

Häner was voted hockey player of the year 2009. In 2013 he was awarded the first sports grant of the year by the German Sports Aid . Since 2013 he has been the athletes spokesman for the German Hockey Association.

So far, Häner has played 183 international matches. (As of August 5, 2016)

Häner began his career at Steglitzer TK , then came to Berliner HC via Berliner SC ; In 2009 he became English champion with East Grinstead HC . After returning to Berlin HC , he won his first German championship title in field hockey in 2012. Häner is an assistant doctor.
