The 12th men's field hockey world championship was held from February 28 to March 13, 2010 at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi . Named after Dhyan Chand , the stadium can seat 20,000 spectators. The official name of the tournament was BDO Hockey World Cup Men 2010 . Twelve national teams competed against each other in initially two groups and then in placement games. A total of 38 international matches were completed. Australia became world champion with a 2-1 final victory over Germany.

The five reigning continental champions were eligible to participate.

In addition, the European runner-up, Germany , as well as the European Championship third ( Netherlands ), the European fourth ( Spain ) and the host, India , qualified directly.

The other three starting places were awarded through three qualifying tournaments that took place in 2009. Here, qualified Pakistan , New Zealand and Argentina for the tournament.

Qualifying tournament in Lille

The tournament took place from October 31 to November 8, 2009 in the French city of Lille . Tournament favorite and record world champion Pakistan prevailed in the final against Japan and qualified for the final tournament.

Qualification tournament in Quilmes

The tournament took place from November 14th to November 22nd, 2009 in the Argentine city of Quilmes . Host Argentina prevailed in the final against Belgium, which was one place better in the world rankings, and qualified for the final tournament.

Germany, the Netherlands, India, Pakistan and Spain have qualified for every World Cup so far. England, Argentina and Australia have only failed to qualify for a World Cup so far. It was the eighth participation for New Zealand, the fifth for Canada and Korea and the fourth for South Africa.
