The Pakistani national hockey team for men represents the Pakistan Hockey Federation on an international level, for example at the Hockey World Championship , the FIH Champions Trophy or the Summer Olympics . The Green Shirts are record world champions with four titles and have won gold three times at the Olympic Games.
After the dissolution of British India , Pakistan's first international match was held in London as part of the 14th Olympic Games on August 2, 1948, where Belgium was beaten 2-1. By 2003, the team played 993 games, in which 298 players were used.
In addition to cricket , hockey is one of the most popular sports in the country and the national team plays in front of spectators that cannot be reached in Europe. The Gaddafi Hockey Stadium in Lahore holds 45,000 spectators. Most recently, however, the great successes have not been seen, so the team finished sixth at the 2006 World Cup and seventh at the 2007 Champions Trophy.
In 1972, Pakistan's hockey players in the scandalous sport of hockey caused a scandal when they came to the award ceremony in flip-flops after the defeat in the Olympic final against Germany and refused to wear the silver medal.
Pakistan currently ranks 13th in the world - and 2nd in Asia.
