Irish men's national hockey team

The Irish national hockey team is the team that represents Ireland (the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland ) in international tournaments. It belongs to the Irish Hockey Association .

Ireland was able to qualify twice for the World Hockey Championship . In 1978 and 1990 the tournament ended in 12th place.

The Olympic Games 1908 in London ended for the Irish team to the silver medal. Since Ireland was not yet independent, the silver medal was assigned to Great Britain . Great Britain reached places 1–4 in this way (place 1: England , places 3/4: Wales and Scotland ); Only the German and French teams had started.

The Irish national team has not been able to qualify for the Olympic tournament since independence. At the qualifying tournament in New Zealand in 2008, the team was able to complete the group stage level on points with Argentina and New Zealand, but lost the playoff game for third place against France.

In addition, the Irish were able to book a first place in the qualifying tournament for the European men's field hockey championship in 2003 in Dublin . They finished the EM in 9th place. Ireland is the current record winner of the Celtic Cup with five titles .

Ireland currently ranks 12th in the world - and 6th in the European ranking.
