The 13th men's field hockey world championship was held from May 31 to June 15, 2014 in the Kyocera Stadium in The Hague . Twelve national teams competed against each other in initially two groups and then in placement games. A total of 38 international matches were completed.
The Australian national team became world champion for the third time , making it the third nation after Pakistan (1982) and Germany (2006) to defend the title.
qualification
In addition to the hosts, the Netherlands , the five reigning continental champions were eligible to participate.
In addition, the six best-placed teams of the 3rd round of the World Hockey League ( Belgium , England , India , Malaysia , New Zealand , Spain ) qualified in June 2013.

The groups were divided according to the world rankings of the world hockey association FIH .
The placements in the world rankings of the FIH (Sahara Men's World Rankings) at the time of the group division are given in brackets.
