The Cars Jeans Stadion , originally ADO Den Haag Stadion , is a football stadium in the Dutch city of The Hague . It is owned and home to the ADO Den Haag football club . The facility has space for 15,000 spectators and was officially opened for the 2007/08 season. In addition to soccer, the sports facility is also used for field hockey .

history

The stadium during construction in December 2006

On November 23, 2005, construction work began in the "Forepark" industrial area. The facade is made entirely of shiny aluminum . In the current state, the stadium offers space for 15,000 spectators, a structural expansion to up to 30,000 spectator seats is possible due to the deliberately very small development around the stadium. The construction costs amounted to approx. € 28 million.

The English-style stadium opened on July 28, 2007 with a friendly match between ADO Den Haag and an amateur team from the Haaglanden region. ADO Den Haag won the game 5-0. Up until this point in time, ADO had played its home games since 1925 in the 11,000-seat Zuiderpark Stadium . In June 2010, a multi-year sponsorship agreement on the naming rights was concluded with the Japanese office communications company Kyocera and the venue was named Kyocera Stadium . In May 2017 the sports facility got a new sponsor name. The facility is now called Cars Jeans Stadium , after the fashion brand Cars Jeans .

safety

Happy crowd control
The outside facade

The Cars Jeans Stadium is one of the safest stadiums in the world. A prerequisite for the stadium's architect was that there should be no fence between the spectators and the pitch. For this reason, the playing field is raised and the spectator stands have been adjusted accordingly; thus the playing field and tiers are separated by a ditch. Under the grandstands there is an area in which 12,000 spectators can move freely during half-time and supply them with snacks and the like. The remaining 3,000 spectators will be entertained in the VIP area. The playing field itself is only accessible through a special corridor.

In the entrance area, admission control takes place through happy crowd sluices. These locks take a biometric photo of the face of every single spectator when they enter the stadium . In addition, 100 cameras are installed in the entire stadium that record the spectators during the game using biometric methods.

In August 2019, part of the roof in the AFAS stadium at AZ Alkmaar collapsed . The arena has been closed and the club is temporarily playing its home games in the Cars Jeans Stadium.

Field Hockey World Championships 2014

In 2014 the men's and women's hockey world championships will be held in The Hague. In addition to the GreenFields Stadium, the Kyocera Stadium was the main venue for the World Championships. First, a temporary hockey field made of artificial turf was laid. After the World Championships, the stadium received artificial turf for the ADO Den Haag games.
