The Abe Lenstra Stadium (spelling Abe Lenstra Stadion ) is a football stadium in the northern Dutch city ​​of Heerenveen , Friesland province . It mainly serves as the venue for SC Heerenveen , which plays in the honor division . The stadium is named after the football player Abe Lenstra from Heerenveen, who died on September 2, 1985.

The stadium was initially built in 1994 with a capacity of approx. 14,500 seats and expanded to 26,100 covered seats in the following years. The stadium has an à la carte restaurant called The Atmosphere , 22 event rooms and 39 boxes, as well as a food discount market . Conferences, weddings, family celebrations, etc. can be held in the event rooms. They have a capacity of 10-5,000 people. This also includes the Fryslân Fean Plaza .

U-21 European Football Championship 2007

The stadium in Heerenveen was one of four venues for the 2007 U-21 European Football Championship . Three Group A games and one semi-final took place at the Abe Lenstra Stadium. In the semi-finals between the Netherlands and England, the 32nd penalty kick decided the penalty shoot-out in favor of the hosts.
