Life and work
After apprenticeship as a carpenter and bricklayer , Disch studied construction technology at the construction technology school in Freiburg and structural engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz . In 1969 he opened a solar architecture office that employed ten people in 2008. From 1998 to 1999 Disch held a visiting professorship at the Karlsruhe University of Design .
The solar vehicles
The future of transport is electric. Rolf Disch took this view as early as the mid-1980s: At the 1986 State Garden Show in Freiburg, he presented muscle-powered and solar-powered vehicles, together with the world's first solar filling station, a glass pavilion with photovoltaics for charging vehicle batteries. From here the “Tour des Sol” to Geneva started, in which Disch also took part with one of his vehicles in 1987 - where he became world champion in solar mobile driving. In the “Solar Challenge” he next crossed the Australian continent, also 100 percent solar powered.
Solar architecture and energy-plus house
The most famous buildings planned by Disch include the Heliotrop in the Freiburg district of Wiehre and the solar settlement in Vauban . In the solar settlement ( developer : Alfred T. Ritter and his sister Marli-Hoppe-Ritter) Disch applied the concept of the plus-energy house, which he had invented, to an entire settlement for the first time. 59 houses were built there according to this standard, while the settlement on the busy Merzhauser Straße is shielded by the so-called sun ship , an office and service center. "Plusenergiehaus" is a registered trademark of Rolf Disch.
