The 14th Women's Field Hockey World Championship was held from July 21 to August 5, 2018 at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Center in London . 16 national teams competed against each other in four groups and then in placement games. A total of 36 international matches were played.
The defending champions were the Netherlands , who were world champions for the eighth time.
Host
In March 2013, one month after the FIH started the award process for the period 2014-2018, the associations of Australia , Belgium , England and New Zealand officially announced that they would apply to host the 2018 World Cup. However, as of August 31, 2013, the Belgian federation did not submit any application documents. In October 2013, about a month before the award, Australia also withdrew its application for “technical and financial reasons”.
On November 7, 2013, the world federation FIH announced in Lausanne that England would host the 2018 Women's World Cup.
qualification
In addition to hosts England , the five reigning continental champions and ten qualifiers from the FIH Hockey World League 2017 semifinals in Brussels and Johannesburg qualified for the World Cup.

Cross games
Quarter finals
In the quarter-finals, the four group winners of the preliminary round each met a winner of a cross game . The game plan wanted Germany and Ireland to have two group winners again against an opponent from their own preliminary group, in the case of Germany even in two consecutive games. The winners of the quarterfinals qualified for the semi-finals, the losers were eliminated from the tournament.
