mode

The two tournaments were played in the same mode. Ten teams each took part in a tournament. These ten nations were divided into two groups of five who played a simple everyone-against-everyone round. The first four after the group stage qualified for the quarter-finals. Where the first of one group played against the fourth of the other group and the second of one group played against the third of the other group. The last two of the groups played against each other for ninth place. The losers in the quarterfinals played against each other for places five to eight. The winners first took part in the semifinals and then in the final (or game for third place).

World Championship qualification

The majority of the qualifying places for the 2018 Women's Field Hockey World Championship in London were allocated in the World League Semifinals. Ten participants were named. Thus, the top five of each tournament qualified under all circumstances. Poorly classified nations were also taken into account as continental champions were among the top five. Should a place fall between two equally classified countries, the better placed nation in the world rankings qualified for the world championship.

Brussels

The tournament in Brussels , Belgium took place from June 21st to July 2nd, 2017. The first four qualified for the Hockey World League Final.
