England Hockey is the national hockey federation in England . Scotland and Wales have their own associations, and Northern Ireland forms a joint association with the Republic of Ireland .

organization

England Hockey is a member of the European Hockey Federation (EHF) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The association organizes games in the highest English field hockey league , the England Hockey League .

The second tier of hockey organization in England consists of six regional associations - East, Midlands, North Hockey Association, South, West and the Combined Services. The county associations are arranged below this .

While there are separate national federations and teams for hockey in the UK, the Olympic Games organized by Great Britain Hockey compete for British teams. The disappointing performance of the British teams since winning the men's gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games caused tensions between the various associations.

The English national team played their home games at the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes . However, one factor in EHA's bankruptcy was the maintenance costs for this stadium. The stadium is currently leased to the Milton Keynes Dons football club and is not used for hockey games. International games are played either in club stadiums or rented stadiums for other sports.

history

The first English hockey association, the Hockey Association (HA), was founded on April 10, 1875 with seven clubs (Teddington, Richmond, Surbiton , Sutton, East Surrey, Upper Tooting, The Strollers) and dissolved again in 1882. It was re-established on January 18, 1886. The HA published the first set of rules for hockey in 1896. It was not until 1970 that the HA joined the EHF and the FIH together with the Scottish Association.

England Hockey was founded on January 1st, 2003 as the successor to the English Hockey Association (EHA). This went into bankruptcy in 2002. The EHA emerged in 1996 from the merger of the national (English) hockey associations for men, women and mixed hockey.

After the insolvency of EHA, the international tasks were initially taken over by World Class Hockey Limited, which was financed by Sport England , the national sports association. On July 1, 2005, England Hockey took over these duties.
