England Hockey League
The England Hockey League is the highest English hockey league (field). Although hockey in England was organized by the Hockey Association and the All England Women's Association since the end of the 19th century, it was not until 1958 that the Men's County Championships, comparable to the national cup in Germany, were held nationwide. Ten years later, this competition was also introduced for women.
A first and for the time being unique national club championship took place in preparation for the 1972 Summer Olympics , as the normal field hockey season in England ended in April. A large number of local and regional leagues arose during the 1970s and 1980s until the England Hockey League was introduced in 1989. In 2006 the English hockey federation, England Hockey , won the Slazenger company as a league sponsor.
