Wimbledon Hockey Club
The Wimbledon Hockey Club is founded in 1883 hockey club from the same south London neighborhood. Initially, the club played on the edge of Wimbledon Common, a large green area west of the village. At the end of the 19th century he joined The Wimbledon Cricket Club , which had existed since 1854 and which has since been renamed The Wimbledon Club , where other sports such as tennis , cricket and squash are offered.
The approximately 3.5 hectare club area includes a cricket field, 15 tennis courts and a natural grass hockey field and is located on Church Road in Wimbledon opposite the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club . In addition, Wimbledon HC uses two artificial turf hockey courts in New Malden . The club, which plays in Marine and Bordeaux, is not only one of the oldest hockey clubs in the world, but also the third largest hockey club in England. In addition to nine men's and seven women's teams, there are around 600 young people and children as members. The club played an important role in the development of the hockey rules ; the Wimbledon Rules are the first generally recognized set of rules.
Ladies
The women competing as Wimbledon LHC were founded in 1889 and are considered the oldest women's hockey team in the world. After many years of membership in leagues of the regional South Clubs' Women's Hockey League, the team rose to the second-rate Conference East in 2012.

The men have been a member of the England Hockey League Premier Division , the highest English hockey league , since the 2013/14 season . The debut season ended in midfield position 6. In the 2014/15 seasons, the team finished third in the main round and thus reached the semi-finals of the English championship. There Wimbledon prevailed against Surbiton HC 2-0. In the final, the first English championship title in the club's history could be won by beating the main round first East Grinstead HC . In addition, Wimbledon qualified for the Euro Hockey League for the first time in 2015/16 , but already lost their opening game, the round of 16, against the eventual finalists Amsterdammer H&BC with 1: 3. The championship was successfully defended at national level in 2015/16. After the main round on position 4, Wimbledon prevailed in the semifinals and finals against Holcombe HC and Reading HC .
