The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames [ ˈkɪŋstən əˌpɒn ˈtɛmz ] is a borough of London. It is located in the southwest of the city. Adding "Royal Borough" (Royal Borough) borne by the district because it during the Middle Ages the English kings private property was. When the Greater London Administrative Region was founded in 1965, it emerged from the Municipal Borough of Kingston upon Thames , the Municipal Borough of Malden and Coombe and the Municipal Borough of Surbiton in the county of Surrey .
The population in 2008 was composed of 79.7% white, 9.6% Asian, 2.4% black and 1.7% Chinese.
Seven Anglo-Saxon kings were crowned in Kingston between 900 and 979 . The coronation stone is still preserved. Between Kingston, Richmond and Roehampton is Richmond Park , a former royal hunting ground.
