Jonathan "Jonny" Lee Miller (born November 15, 1972 in Kingston upon Thames , London ) is a British actor .

biography

Private life

Miller is the grandson of film actor Bernard Lee , who played the role of "M" in the first eleven James Bond films . His father, Alan Miller, was a stage actor in the 1950s and 1960s. From 1996 to 1999 Miller was married to Angelina Jolie . Miller married actress Michele Hicks in July 2008 , and their son was born in December 2008.

Career

After Miller had acted in several plays at Tiffin Boy's Grammar School, he dropped out of school at the age of 17 in order to devote himself entirely to acting. He gained international attention with the films Hackers - Im Netz des FBI and Danny Boyles Trainspotting - Neue Helden . He has also appeared in a number of BBC television programs and various plays.

From 2008 to 2009 he played the title role of a lawyer in San Francisco in the US television series Eli Stone , who suddenly listens to music and has visions that nobody else perceives, but which steer his own life in new directions. In late 2009, Miller starred alongside Sienna Miller in Patrick Marber's adaptation After Miss Julie based on August Strindberg's Miss Julie on Broadway in New York .

In Danny Boyle's production of Frankenstein at the Royal National Theater in London, he played the main characters Victor Frankenstein and Frankenstein's Monster in alternation with Benedict Cumberbatch . Both were critically acclaimed and collectively received the Evening Standard Theater Award for 2011 and the Laurence Olivier Award .

In 2012 Miller starred in Tim Burton's vampire story Dark Shadows alongside Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer . He also starred alongside Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton in Neil Jordan's fantasy drama thriller Byzantium , which was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012 . In the television series Elementary , a CBS remake of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes , which aired in the USA from September 2012 to August 2019, he played the lead role alongside Lucy Liu .

In 2014, Miller was elected the winner of the German IQ Prize in the Art / Media category by the members of the Mensa Association in Germany in protest because Edward Snowden had not been allowed to vote. However, the award was not officially awarded to Miller.
