Rosental , called Roosedaal or Rooseli in Basel German , is a district of the Swiss city of Basel . It is located in the center of Kleinbasel and borders the Kleinhüningen district (river Wiese ) to the north, the Hirzbrunnen district ( A3 motorway ) to the east, the Wettstein district (Riehenstrasse) to the south and the Clara , Matthäus and Klybeck districts to the west ( Riehenring).
In 1914 the former church of St. Theodor was completely cleared. The Rosental Chapel was preserved.
The district is named after the former estate "zum Rosental" . In the center of the district is the Rosentalanlage, which is used for cultural events such as the Basel autumn fair or the Circus Knie . In the Rosental quarter there are also the halls of the Basel sample fair and the Basel exhibition tower , the third tallest building in Switzerland.
As of January 1, 2008, the district was subdivided into the two residential districts “Messe” (16.1) in the south and “Erlenmatt” (16.2) in the north. However, this new district subdivision is only used for statistical purposes and has no influence on the district as such.
The former abdication hall of the St. Theodor cemetery in Basel is located on the Rosental plant and was built in 1832 by Melchior Berri .
