Klybeck , called Glyybi in Basel German , is a district of the city of Basel . It is located in Kleinbasel at the confluence of the meadow with the Rhine and borders Kleinhüningen ( Wiese ) in the north and the Matthäus districts in the south (Dreirosenstrasse, Horburgstrasse) and Rosental in the east (Riehenring). The quarter also forms its own residential area.

The Klybeck quarter is named after the Klybeckstrasse that runs there. This in turn takes its name from the Klybeck estate , the former seat of the bailiff of Kleinhüningen , outside the city walls . On it was a pond castle (the ending -eck indicates a castle name), which was probably built by a landlord named "Klüb", "Chlubo" or "Chludbert". Today's Klybeck is crossed by the historical district ban of Kleinhüningen . Signs indicate the course.

The Klybeck used to be a typical workers' quarter . Today the quarter is characterized by a colorful mix of foreigners, students and other residents.

The Klybeck quarter is home to large chemical plants ( Novartis , BASF , Huntsman ). The following companies had their headquarters at Klybeckstrasse 141: Ciba, Ciba-Geigy, Ciba SC.

As part of the planned S-Bahn diameter line Herzstück , an underground station "Klybeck" for the trinational S-Bahn Basel is to be built in the area of the Dreirosenanlage . This would create a connection to both major Basel train stations and to the agglomeration without changing trains.
