Wettstein ( Basel German Wettstai ) (before 1921 Grenzach ) is a district of the city of Basel . It is located in Kleinbasel on the banks of the Rhine and borders the districts of Rosental and Clara (Riehenstrasse) in the north, the Hirzbrunnen district ( A3 motorway ) in the east, the Rhine in the south and the old town of Kleinbasel (Claragraben, Wettsteinstrasse) in the west .

The Wettstein quarter takes its name from the former Basel mayor Johann Rudolf Wettstein , after whom the Wettstein Bridge is named, as do the Wettsteinallee, Wettsteinstrasse, Wettsteinschulhaus and Wettsteinhof in the quarter. The Tinguely Museum in honor of Jean Tinguely is located on the banks of the Rhine .

Residential districts

Wettstein is divided into two residential districts:

  • Rosengarten (Wettsteinplatz, Schaffhauserrheinweg)
  • Solitude (Landhof, Tinguely Museum, Schwarzwaldallee)
