Eli Stone, a lawyer, is diagnosed with an inoperable aneurysm in the brain. The television series was first broadcast from January 31 to April 17, 2008 on US broadcaster ABC . The second broadcast of the second season began on October 14 of the same year. On November 20, 2008, ABC announced that the station would not buy any more episodes beyond the current second season due to poor ratings . ABC initially suspended the broadcast of the last four episodes. It was later announced that these episodes would be shown from June 20, 2009. Since they were shown in Ireland from March 13, 2009, these episodes were not premiered in the United States.

The German premiere took place on August 6, 2008 on ProSieben . On January 14, 2009, ProSieben began broadcasting the second season.
