Greg Berlanti (born May 24, 1972 in Rye , New York ) is an American television producer , screenwriter and director . He currently leads the television series Arrow , The Flash , Supergirl , Blind Spot and Riverdale as Executive Producer .

Career

Greg Berlanti grew up as the son of Italian immigrants in a New York neighborhood that, as he later described it, was shaped by White Anglo-Saxon Protestants . He graduated from Northwestern University in Illinois with a degree in drama .

After writing a few plays for the theater, he began working on Dawson's Creek in 1998 as a writer and producer . In 2000 he was behind the camera for the first time as director of the feature film The Broken Hearts Club , which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival . In 2002 he created the television series Everwood , which he supervised as executive producer , and which was nominated for two Emmys in the four years of its existence .

In 2002 Berlanti also invented the short-lived television series Jack & Bobby , which in turn was nominated for a Golden Globe Award . In the following years Berlanti developed and produced various television series. Together with Marc Guggenheim , whom Berlanti met while working on Jack & Bobby , he developed and produced the Eli Stone series of lawyers from 2008 to 2009 , which was nominated for a Writers Guild Award . My Superhero Family followed in 2010, and The Tomorrow People from 2013 to 2014 . Guggenheim and Berlanti have been showrunners for the CW television series Arrow since 2012, and for The Flash since 2014 . Together with Guggenheim, he also wrote the comic book adaptation Green Lantern in 2011 . He also developed the television series Supergirl .

Berlanti also produced several series, from 2006 to 2011 the television series Brothers & Sisters , 2013 Golden Boy and since 2014 Detective Laura Diamond .

For the miniseries Political Animals , which Berlanti wrote and produced, he has received several nominations, including an Emmy , a Directors Guild of America Award and a Writers Guild of America Award .

Greg Berlanti is openly gay . He has been in a relationship with US footballer Robbie Rogers since November 2013 . In February 2016, the two became parents of a boy with the help of a surrogate mother . In May 2019 they became parents to a daughter.
