action

The series' events took place at some point in the past and are narrated by Jughead Jones, who also plays a major role on the series while taking on the role of the narrator .

season 1

The action takes place in the fictional town of Riverdale. At first glance, Riverdale seems like a quiet, innocent town, but appearances are deceptive. Nothing has been the same since the tragic death of high school student Jason Blossom. Archie Andrews wants to pursue a career as a musician and tries to clean up his broken friendship with budding writer and classmate Jughead Jones. Meanwhile, Betty Cooper is looking forward to her crush, Archie, but is not ready to admit her feelings to him. When the new student, Veronica Lodge, moved from New York City to Riverdale with her mother Hermione , it sparked immediately between the fashion-conscious beauty and Archie. However, Veronica does not want to endanger her new friendship with Betty. And then there is the "queen bee" Cheryl Blossom, who apparently knows more about the mysterious death of her twin brother Jason than she wants to admit. In the last episode there is a kiss between Betty and Jughead. Jughead then gets a Serpent jacket from Tall Boy. Meanwhile, a new criminal appears in Riverdale. First he shoots Fred Andrews in Pops, who only survives thanks to Archie, who drives him to the hospital without a license. It is revealed that Clifford Blossom shot Jason and is secretly smuggling drugs.

season 2

At the beginning of the second season, Veronica's father Hiram Lodge returns from custody. Archie and Betty take on the mysterious serial killer "Black Hood" who is up to mischief in Riverdale. Archie strengthens his relationship with Veronica and becomes involved in the machinations of Hiram Lodges. Jughead Jones joins the Southside Serpents, a rocker group, and identifies more and more with the southern part of the city after having to visit the local Southside High. Meanwhile, Betty is looking for her brother, who was given up for adoption by her mother Alice after he was born. It later emerges that the man believed to be Betty's brother is actually her real brother's murderer. In the following episodes, it turns out that Hal Cooper is "Black Hood". Meanwhile, Jughead makes a deal with Hiram Lodge to leave his life to the ghoulie and Penny Peabody to prevent a gang war. When he gets there, Jughead is almost beaten to death by the ghoulies. Betty calls FP, who drives off immediately to look for his son. Shortly afterwards you see a scene of Jughead being carried out of the forest half dead by FP.

season 3

Archie is accused of murder over an intrigue by Hiram Lodge. Since the jury is absolutely divided, the judge would have reopened the case. Archie hits a deal with the prosecutor so that his family and friends no longer have to suffer from the whole process. He is taken to the juvenile detention center owned by Hiram Lodge. After Archie managed to escape thanks to his friends at an illegal "fight club" organized by Hiram Lodge and director Norten, the latter had to go into hiding and left Riverdale for a while. Now the game "Griffins & Gargoyles" appears, which causes fear and horror in the city. The midnight club, which was founded years ago by the parents of the main characters, is again worried about the children. But the Gargoyle King is also caught. Archie also saves the life of the black man and thus ended their hatred for one another. Betty is sent to the Sisters of Silent Mercy and discovers their wrong game. In the season finale, Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica find out that Penelope Blossom started G&G and Chic is dressed as the Gargoyle King. Penelope leads the 4 into a forest, where they have to complete G&G tasks to get out of the forest alive. Betty's assignment leads to Penelope shooting Hal Cooper in front of the four. When everyone has their task behind them, it turns out that Penelope wants to kill them. The 4 run away and are protected and saved by the Serpents and the Pretty Poisons. A preview shows Archie, Betty and Veronica standing in the near future covered in blood and half-naked in front of a fire in the forest and Archie throwing Jughead's hat into the fire, which indicates Jughead's death.

Season 4

Archie's father, Fred Andrews, is killed in a car accident. A few months later, the kids start their final year at Riverdale High School, which also has a new headmaster, the strict Holden Honey. At the start of the school year, Jughead receives a scholarship to Stonewall Prep, a private school for wealthy children, where he takes part in a writing class. Betty and her brother Charles, an FBI agent, manage to track down their mother Alice and The Farm. Edgar Evernever is shot by Alice and his wife Evelyn goes to jail. During her parents' trial, Veronica meets her older half-sister Hermosa Lodge, a private detective, Hiram and Hermione are both released from prison, and Hiram becomes the new mayor of Riverdale. Archie opens a community center to get kids off the streets. Veronica is also in constant competition with her father over the rum business, whereupon she teams up with Cheryl and they set up a new business with rum and maple syrup in their Maple Club. During his time at Stonewall Prep, Jughead finds out that his grandfather Forsythe Pendleton Jones was the first student at Stonewall Prep and was cheated out of a lot of money by his classmate and current headmaster Francis DuPont. At a party in the woods, Jughead is attacked by his classmates, but his friends manage to revive him and he and Betty expose Francis DuPont as a con man and murderer, who then commits suicide. However, Betty finds out that the real mastermind behind the attempted murder of Jughead his classmate was the manipulative and sly Donna. After these events, Jughead moves back to Riverdale High. When the friends there want to take part in a talent show a little later, there is an argument between Betty and Jughead and between Archie and Veronica, whereupon only Betty and Archie meet at rehearsal and they kiss, which leads to a short-lived affair Betty quickly quits because she loves Jughead and Archie Veronica. After Jughead moved back to Riverdale High, he, Betty and her FBI brother Charles tackle a new case. For some time now, video cassettes have been regularly placed in front of several houses in the city, on which the houses filmed from outside can be seen. Over time, tapes are even recorded on which masked people re-enact murder scenes that have taken place in Riverdale in recent years, such as Clifford's murder of Jason and the alleged murder of Betty of Jughead in the woods. In the last scene of the season, Jughead and Betty find a house in the woods where the murder scenes were reenacted and play a video prepared for them in which Mr. Honey is stabbed to death by several masked men. It remains to be seen whether the person killed in the video was actually the real Mr. Honey or just a showman and who created these mysterious videos.
