Serial death

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The serial death describes the "final" removal of a character through the death of the same from the ongoing plot of a television series . This means that a further appearance of the respective actor is mostly excluded, apart from flashbacks, similar cinematic means or appearances in dreams. Possible reasons for a series death can be of a dramaturgical nature, but also the desire of the actor to leave the series or a lack of acceptance of the character (or actor) on the part of the target group . Another possibility, apparently not so rare, is disciplining "rebellious" actors with the threat of letting them "die serial death"; So clearly described in Spiegel-online: "The fear of serial death is great".

The best known attempt to undo a serial death was that of Bobby Ewing ( Patrick Duffy ) in the series Dallas . The events of the entire ninth season were explained by the fact that they were only dreamed of his wife Pamela Ewing ( Victoria Principal ). But the telenovela Sturm der Liebe also proved that serial death does not always have to be the final end. Serial beast Barbara von Heidenberg survived serial death twice until she finally died serial death in 2017.

The assignment of a new role to the actress who died fictitiously in the series universe can be found in the doctor-dramedy series Scrubs with Aloma Wright in the series death role "Sister Laverne Roberts" and then in the role "Sister Shirley" .
