Aloma Wright
Aloma Wright (born March 10, 1950 in New York City , New York , United States ) is an American actress who gained international fame mainly for her role as nurse Laverne Roberts in the sitcom Scrubs .
Life
Wright was born in New York in 1950 and grew up in California. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, she toured with the musicals Ain't Misbehavin ' and The Gospel Truth . Wright won two Drama Logue awards for her roles in The Visit (1996) and From the Mississippi Delta (1997) . She was also nominated for two NAACP Image Awards for Best Actress in 1994 and 1997 .
In addition to her stage engagement, Wright was increasingly seen in smaller roles in film and television from the mid-1990s. Among other things, she made guest appearances in episodes of the television series Malcolm in the middle , Medical Investigation and Navy CIS as well as in the films When Billie Beat Bobby , Mr. Deeds and Shadow Hours .
Wright's best-known role is that of nurse Laverne Roberts on the television sitcom Scrubs . She played the role of the warm-hearted believer for six years until the character died due to the planned end of the series in the sixth season. When Scrubs was carried on, Wright returned as sister Shirley, the opposite of her previous role.
Wright's only daughter works as a lawyer in San Diego.
