Luke Perry
Coy Luther "Luke" Perry III (born October 11, 1966 in Mansfield , Ohio - † March 4, 2019 in Burbank , California ) was an American actor and voice actor . Perry was best known for his role as Dylan McKay in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210 .
Life
Luke Perry was born in Mansfield in October 1966 and grew up in rural Frederickstown , Ohio, USA. His father Coy Luther Perry II († 1980) worked in a steel mill and his mother Ann Perry is a housewife. His parents divorced when Perry was six, and his mother remarried in 1978. He has an older brother named Thomas (* 1965), a younger sister named Amy (* 1970) and a half-sister named Emily (* 1976) from his mother's second marriage. Luke attended Fredericktown High School and graduated in 1984.
After finishing school, he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. In order to finance his acting lessons, Perry worked in a factory and as a road construction worker. He went to over 200 auditions before getting his first role on the soap opera Loving in 1988 .
Perry finally achieved international fame in 1990 in the role of Dylan McKay in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210 , which he played from 1990 to 1995 and from 1998 to 2000. During his three-year hiatus from Beverly Hills, 90210 , Perry starred in a number of television productions and in the film The Fifth Element (1997) alongside Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich .
After the end of Beverly Hills, 90210 , Perry starred in films such as Trapped in the Bermuda Triangle , Deadly Formula (both 2001) and Supernova - When the Sun Explodes, as well as in the television series Will & Grace (2005) and Law & Order: New York (2008).
In 2011, Perry worked again with his former Beverly Hills, 90210 colleague Jason Priestley . The western Goodnight for Justice was directed by Priestley, while Perry played the lead role and worked as a producer. From 2017 he played the role of Fred Andrews , father of the main character Archie Andrews, in the Netflix series Riverdale . A few months after Perry's death, Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was released , in which he played a fellow actor of Leonardo DiCaprio's character in a supporting role .
Luke Perry was married to model Rachel Sharp from November 1993 to October 2003. The couple had two children; the son Jack Perry (* 1997) and a daughter (* 2000). Jack Perry is known as a wrestler under the name Jungle Boy in All Elite Wrestling .
On February 27, 2019, Perry suffered a major stroke . He was then admitted to a hospital in Burbank. There he died on the morning of March 4, 2019 at the age of 52.
