Casey Morton Cott (born August 8, 1992 ) is an American actor best known for his role as Kevin Keller on The CW television series Riverdale .

Life

Cott was born in 1992, the second of three children to Lori and Rick Cott, an investment manager and former fighter pilot for the US Air Force , and grew up in Chagrin Falls , Ohio . Cott has a younger sister, Carly Megan, and an older brother, Corey Michael , the latter also an actor on Broadway , albeit in the theater. Cott attended Chagrin Falls High School, then studied at Boston University and then switched to the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh , Ohio, from which he graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts .

Cott currently lives in New York City .

Career

Cott began his acting career in small theaters in Ohio and appeared in productions of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Romeo and Juliet , among others . After moving to Pittsburgh , he became involved in the local theater scene while studying acting and performing in university theater productions at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He appeared with fellow CMU students in 2014 in a production of Parade at the New Hazlett Theater in Pittsburgh, as well as in a production of Small Engine Repair at Barebone Productions . In August 2016 he starred alongside Shuler Hensley and John Cariani at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor , New York in Stephen Schwartz 's musical version of The Prince of Egypt Moses .

On March 12, 2016 during his last year at CMU, was Cott as Kevin Keller in the drama series Riverdale by The CW , a television adaptation of the Archie Comics -Universums, cast. Kevin Keller is the first openly gay character in the Archie Comics stories . Cott stated in a Facebook video in March 2017 that he originally auditioned for the roles of Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones before taking on the role of Kevins. In the second season he was promoted from a minor to a main character.

On March 12, 2017, at the South by Southwest Festival , Cott announced his upcoming role in Matthew Perkins' film The Mascot . Cott will play the lead role of Nick Shepard, a former quarterback who becomes the mascot of a football team. Filming will begin in Atlanta in 2018 .
