As a celebrated hero in the early 1960s, he was barely able to admit his homosexuality to himself, let alone his family, society, or friend - one reason he kept trying to escape the earth and foster a daring image. The community also includes Jane with her multitudinous personality (hence her nickname "Crazy Jane") and, most recently, Cliff Steele, a daring racing driver whose brain the Chief was the only one to save after a serious accident and install it in a heavy, self-made metal body .

When the super villain Mr. Nobody makes his old adversary Caulder disappear, Victor Stone, a cyborg , meets Caulder's protégés, and with him they embark on a mission to find the chief. Meanwhile, Mr. Nobody releases Caulder to help them stop a doom sect. They also meet the former Doom Patrol , Danny, the street , the beard hunter and free Flex Mentallo from the facilities of the office for normality . Then Mr. Nobody lets her into the White Room, where he is holding Caulder prisoner, and forces Caulder to reveal that he was responsible for their accidents in search of a means to prolong his life in order to protect his daughter as long as possible. Eventually they defeat Mr. Nobody on Danny Street and save Caulder's daughter.

characters

main characters

Eric Morden / Mr. Nobody (Season 1)
Mr. Nobody (played by Alan Tudyk ) is the main villain of the first season. Morden was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil , but after his release went to Paraguay to participate in an experiment by a former Nazi that turned him into a living shadow and gave him superpowers. Almost omnipotent and omniscient, he can change reality, create illusions and other worlds, and uses these powers to psychologically torture people and drive them insane. With his strength he breaks through the fourth wall and thus becomes the narrator of the series with ironic, biting comments. At the end of the first season, he is captured on a white canvas.
Niles Caulder / The Chief
Niles Caulder (played by Timothy Dalton ) is a paraplegic scientist who takes in people who have been on the verge of death and isolated outsiders in his estate, Doom Manor. After Mr. Nobody makes Caulder disappear, the others go on a mission to find him. When they do this, it turns out that he deliberately caused their accidents in order to find a way to eternal life, to protect his daughter Dorothy Spinner and to be able to live longer than her. In order to extend his own life, he wears a monkey's paw as a talisman , which he has to surrender at the beginning of the second season.
Rita Farr / Elasti-Woman
Rita Farr (played by April Bowlby ), born Gertrude Cramp, was a 1950s Hollywood actress. While filming, she came into contact with a toxic gas that turned her cell structure into a gelatinous state, which can deform her body. However, at the beginning of the series she cannot control this force and in moments of emotional instability or nervousness her body dissolves against her will.
Larry Trainor / Negative Man
Larry Trainor is played in flashbacks by Matt Bomer , who also lends him the voice. In the scenes in which he is masked from head to toe, he is played by Matthew Zuk . Larry was a United States Air Force pilot with a wife and sons in his 1960s , but is secretly homosexual and had an affair with a colleague named John Bowers. During a test flight, he got caught in an energy cloud and crashed. Seriously burned, he has since been wearing special bandages against radioactive radiation and sharing his body with a glowing blue energy being. If this - often against his will - comes out of the body, Larry loses consciousness. After his accident, Larry ended up in the "Ant Farm", a facility of the office for normalcy , from which Niles freed him and brought him to Doom Manor.
Kay Challis / ("Crazy") Jane
Kay Challis has suffered from dissociative identity disorder since she was sexually abused by her father ("Daddy") in her childhood (played by Skye Roberts as a child) and has 64 personalities who are subconsciously located in an underground tunnel system. Kay Challis retired completely underground after the abuse, whereupon the personality Miranda came to the surface. In a psychiatric institution, most of the personalities were each given their own individual superpower as a result of an accident with a gene bomb. Her current dominant, most of the time personality is Jane , who is extremely talented as a painter. Diane Guerrero plays Jane and all the other personalities when they come to the surface; in the underground some are embodied by other actresses. The most important, recurring personalities include:
  • Baby Doll (played underground by Sarah Borne ): a very child-like personality with pigtails who finds everything delightful, but also quickly gets scared. She is full of energy and just wants to play. Your job is to have fun and make friends. She is one of the very few personalities that men trusts while others are openly man-hating after the traumatic events.
  • Dr. Harrison (played underground by Catherine Carlen ): a brilliant psychologist with white streak and blue eyes. Your super power is to be able to manipulate other people with telepathy.
  • Driller Bill (played underground by Shay Mack ): an African American who performs drilling. ( to drill = to drill).
  • Driver 8 (played underground by Diane Guerrero): underground leader of a train wagon used to drive personalities up to the surface.
  • Flaming Katy: a huge human torch.
  • Flit: Your superpower is teleportation .
  • Hammerhead (played underground by Stephanie Czajkowski ): an aggressive, bald person. Your power is super strength.
  • Karen (played underground by Diane Guerrero): an unstable, love-obsessed personality who loves 1990s romantic comedies and wants to marry her boyfriend. Your super power is to use a love spell to force others to love you.
  • Lucy Fugue (played underground by Tara Lee ): with super electric powers.
  • Miranda (played in memories by Leela Owen ; in the underground Stephanie Marie Ware ): the dominant personality after Kay Challis and before Jane. She appeared as Kay Challis seven years an exorcism has been subjected, and disappeared completely into the ground after she was raped in a church, which she threw herself in the underground in a well. In this she was apparently reborn with a new shape.
  • Penny Farthing (played underground by Anna Lore ): stutters on the surface, but not underground. Her name is the English word for penny farthing .
  • Pretty Polly (played underground by Hannah Alline ): wears a Victorian black dress and has an X carved over her eyes. It is named after an English folk ballad about the violent death of a woman.
  • the secretary (played by Jackie Goldston in the underground ): a rather cold, stiff and calm woman, dressed in a pinstripe suit with strict hairstyle and glasses.
  • Silver Tongue (played underground by Chelsea Alana Rivera ): Her special power is that what she says appears materialized in space in front of her and she can deform the silver, pointed letters and use them as weapons.
Cliff Steele / Robotman
Cliff Steele is played in flashbacks by Brendan Fraser , who also lends him the voice, and in the make-up of Riley Shanahan . He was a successful NASCAR driver with a woman who cheated on him with colleague Bump Weathers and a daughter named Clara. After a car accident in which his wife and daughter were in the car, all three are believed to be dead. Niles Caulder was able to save Cliff's brain and implant it in a mechanical body and takes him on as the newest member of Doom Manor at the beginning of the series. Cliff later finds out that Clara survived and was raised by Bump Weathers.
Victor "Vic" Stone / Cyborg
Victor Stone is actually a member of the Teen Titans and a character on the related animated series ; He is played by Joivan Wade in the real- life series Doom Patrol . After an accident in his parents' chemistry laboratory, two scientists at STAR Labs, in which Victor was seriously injured and his mother allegedly died, his father Silas replaced or supplemented destroyed body parts of Victor with machine parts equipped with an intelligent computer program called GRID. One eye contains a camera and a mechanical arm contains a sonic cannon. He actually lives in Detroit , where he acted as a superhero against petty criminals, but when he learns that Niles Caulder, a friend of his father's, has gone missing, he goes to Doom Manor to look for him with the others. He later learns from his father that his mother also survived the accident, but that his father was only able to save one of the two. Due to the accident and the death of his mother, for which he is responsible, he has post-traumatic flashbacks, because of which he visits a trauma group in the second season.
Dorothy Spinner (Season 2)
Dorothy Spinner (played by Abigail Shapiro ) is the daughter of Niles Caulder and the prehistoric woman Slava, whom he met in the wilderness of Yukon in 1913 . She has the shape of an eleven-year-old girl, although she is now over a hundred years old, and has a monkey face. She has the ability to make her imaginary friends, whose voices she hears in her head, appear real, including very dangerous beings. Niles found her at a traveling circus in 1927 and took her to Danny the Street from there. At the end of the first season, the group rescues her from what she lives in Doom Manor. Her imaginary friends include:
  • Darling-Come-Home (played by Vanessa Cater , voiced by Kat Cressida ): a housewife with an apron, whose head is hollow and is lit by two lightbulbs as eyes.
  • Hershel (voiced by Brian T. Stevenson ): a giant talking spider.
  • Manny: a monstrous animal with fur and antlers similar to what Niles had chased when he met Dorothy's mother.

The candle maker (voiced by Lex Lang ) was not invented by her, but still in her head as a deep voice unknown to Dorothy when she first appeared, urging her to make a wish in order to appear. Outside of her head, he's a skeletal monster with a burning candlestick for his head. His deadly destructive power is why Niles must protect the world from Dorothy.

Further

Ezekiel and Admiral Whiskers
Ezekiel (voiced by Curtis Armstrong ) is a cockroach who believes in God and the biblical apocalypse and longs for them. Every time Mr. Nobody leads the world almost to its end, he gives a fanatical monologue. Admiral Whiskers is a rat - his sounds are subtitled translated into human language - whose mother was run over by the group's bus, so Whiskers swore revenge on them. Because of this, he climbs into Cliff and causes him to collapse. In the end, they team up with Mr. Nobody to finally destroy the world. In Danny Street, both of them are enlarged by Niles' daughter and devastate the city until Mr. Nobody makes them fall in love with each other through his narration.
Steve Larson / Animal-Vegetable-Mineral-Man
Steve Larson (played by Alec Mapa ) is a tourist in Paraguay with the goal of obtaining superpowers in an experiment like Eric Morden, but after staying in the machine for too long, he mutates into a hybrid creature that, among other things, grows a dinosaur head . After that, he is no longer part of the plot, but is mentioned as a running gag on news broadcasts of robbing a general store, then being arrested and being attacked.
Willoghby Kipling
Willoughby Kipling (played by Mark Sheppard ) is a trench coat- wearing occult detective, Knights Templar and chaos magician, based on John Constantine . He is a friend of Niles Caulder. Part of his magic is that he can use cigarette butts to create portals to other places, the horse oracle Baphomet (voiced by Chantelle Barry ), with which he is secretly in love, and can conjure up a flaming sword. In the first season he helps the group fight the sect of the unwritten book; in the second season to get big again.
Danny the Street / Danny Brick Co.
Danny is a street with awareness and personality who identifies as genderqueer ( non-binary ) and uses the singular pronoun they in the original to refer to himself . In the German dubbing, pronouns for Danny are simply avoided. Danny communicates without a sound through text, for example on signs, posters or neon advertising. Danny can teleport himself to other places and is therefore very difficult to find consciously. Therefore, Danny offers a safe haven for outsiders and marginalized minorities and fringe groups, especially the LGBT community. The residents are called Dannyzens (a play on words with English citizens for citizens); below that is the drag queen Maura Lee Karupt that the drag club Peeping Tom's Perpetual Cabaret , a drag show with Karaoke lists. Danny is hunted by the Normality Bureau , which Maura Lee originally belonged to. For Niles Caulder, Danny took on his daughter Dorothy Spinner and hid it in the doll's clinic for decades until Mr. Nobody found out and kidnapped Danny to threaten Dorothy. At the end of the first season, Danny is destroyed, but a brick labeled "Danny Brick Co." remains. After the brick breaks, Danny decides that he doesn't want to be street anymore, so as not to be a prison for Dorothy, and becomes a tire.
Flex Mentallo
Flex (played by Devan Long ) is a superhero with the ability to change reality by tensing his muscles. In Rita's childhood he was known as the "hero of the beach" and appeared as an advertising character in comic books. He was captured by the Normality Bureau in 1964 and is being freed from the new Doom Patrol in the present. His wife Dolores has been processed by the office in such a way that at the moment of their reunion she will fall apart and die. Then he becomes a Dannyzen and brings the others to safety from Mr. Nobody.
Ernest Franklin / Beard Hunter
Franklin (played by Tommy Snider ) has the peculiarity that when he eats a man's whiskers, a connection is established to his brain, which allows him to manipulate his actions or find the whereabouts of the person. He is being recruited by the Normality Bureau to find Caulder. At the end of the first season he is trapped on the white canvas with Mr. Nobody.
