Alec Mapa (born July 10, 1965 in San Francisco , California , USA) is an American actor and comedian . Mapa was best known as an actor through his television role as Vern , Gabrielle's best gay friend, on the television series Desperate Housewives . Previously, Mapa appeared in the series Half & Half as Adam Benet . In the movie Zohan , he played a gay hairdresser named Claude .

Career

Mapa is of Filipino descent and was born in San Francisco . After his school education he made his breakthrough as an actor in the production of M. Butterfly . On television, he first appeared in various programs, including the Jamie Foxx Show , Roseanne , Seinfeld , NYPD Blue , Friends , Murder One , Dharma & Greg , Rules of Engagement and finally Desperate Housewives , where he played the role of Vern played. He was also seen as a comedian with Jason Bateman in 2001 on the comedy show Some of My Best Friends . Mapa appeared in the stand-up comedy series Wisecrack . Mapa was also seen in the films Bright Lights, Big City , Leben und Liebe in LA and Connie and Carla . From 2007 to 2010 he was also seen in the series Ugly Betty as Suzuki St. Pierre , who regularly reports on celebrities on television. He also played in Don't mess with the mess .

Mapa received the GLAAD Media Award in 2005 . Mapa is openly gay and actively supports various projects in the LGBT and Asian-American community in the United States.
