Teen titans
The Teen Titans (later also known as The New Teen Titans , The New Titans, and The Titans ) are a superhero group made up of teenagers from the DC Universe .
Silver Age
The Teen Titans first appeared in US The Brave and the Bold # 54 (July 1964) and were portrayed as Junior JLA . The team consisted of Robin I , Kid Flash I and Aqualad , who joined together like their role models. A short time later, Wonder Girl I joined them, which was introduced earlier, but was given a completely different role, the origin of which was only explained in the 80s.
The Teen Titans became so popular that they received their first own series in 1966. Speedy , who is later named as a co-founder, and a few others joined the team: Lilith Clay, Mal Duncan, Hawk and Dove . Honorary members of the group were Aquagirl and Gnarrk.
The keynote fluctuated between the relaxed 1960s and the seriousness of the Vietnam War. In a story line, the death of a peace activist makes the team rethink their goals and tasks. As a consequence, the active members of the Teen Titans join Mr. Jupiter - a scientist who becomes a kind of father figure - and Robin briefly leaves the team to study.
The original team made appearances in the 1960 series The Superman / Aquaman Hour of Adventure . In the 1970s, the series was discontinued with the number # 43 due to flattening interest.
From 1976 the series was continued with the number # 44 to # 53. The series was led across different story arcs without focusing on a specific topic. There are two issues to consider: Joker's daughter and the Teen Titans West team. In addition to the aforementioned daughter of the Joker, Bumblebee, Batgirl , Golden Eagle and Beast Boy joined the Teen Titans.
The New Teen Titans
The Titans got a new series in 1980: The New Teen Titans . The new team consisted of the well-known, now young adults Robin I, Wonder Girl I and Kid Flash I. Beast Boy was brought back into the series under the new name Changeling. A few new faces appeared alongside him: Cyborg , Starfire, and Raven. Together they fought Raven's father, the demon Trigon.
It has been speculated that the New Teen Titans were DC's response to Marvel's popular X-Men , as both teams involved young adults preoccupied with their own conflicts rather than battling supervillains. Apart from that, both series were instruments to make comics more character-related.
The enemy's characters were no less complex. The mercenary Deathstroke attacks the Titans in an attempt to complete the task his late son was unable to complete. Meanwhile, the team is infiltrated by the psychopathic Terra I, who wants to destroy them. This narrative also showed how Dick Grayson became Nightwing . The monitor , made famous by the Crisis on Infinite Earths , also appeared in the series.
In 1982, the four-part miniseries Tales of the New Teen Titans was released , which explained the background stories of Cyborg, Raven, Starfire and Changeling.
Other interesting stories were A Day in the Life… , which shed light on the protagonists' private lives, Who is Donna Troy , in which Robin Wonder Girls finds out her true identity, and We Are Gathered Here Today , in which one can read about Wonder Girl's wedding.
In 1984 the series was called Tales of the New Teen Titans for over a year due to sales reasons , but it had nothing to do with the older miniseries of the same name. Tales of the New Teen Titans ran up to number 91, although in the higher editions (from No. 60) only reprints of the newly started series New Teen Titans (2nd Series) appeared. The relaunched series 'The New Teen Titans' thus continued the main storyline of the superhero team. Issue # 1 sparked some controversy because Nightwing and Starfire were shown in bed together, even though it was previously explained that the two are a couple.
After # 5, the writers of the series changed a few times, so that the series began to wobble and had no clear line. Issues # 50 to # 61 were again written by an author. The series got a new title during this time: The New Titans . It told a new story of the origin of Wonder Girl aka Troy.
New characters were later introduced, old ones radically changed, and the series ran for seven years. In the number # 130, with which the series was discontinued, the team had little to do with the original one.
Besides those already mentioned, these were members of the New Teen Titans team at the time : Jericho, Kole and Danny Chase. In The New Titans team were Phantasm, Pantha, Red Star, pulses, Damage, Green Lantern , Supergirl , Rose Wilson, Minion and baby Wildbeest. Team Titans consisted of Killowat, Mirage, Terra II, Redwing, Dagon, Prester Jon, and Battalion.
Teen Titans (Vol. 2)
A completely independent group began their adventures in 1996 in a new # 1. The run up to # 24 had a team led by the Zero Hour rejuvenated Atom . Members were Atom, Argent, Risk, Joto, Prysm, Captain Marvel Jr. and Fringe.
The Titans
The three-part mini-series JLA / Titans heralded a new series that started again at # 1 (1999). In the mini-series, every Titan from the previous series was shown in addition to the last team. This reincarnation of the team consisted of Nightwing, Troia, Arsenal, Tempest II, Flash III, Starfire II, Cyborg, Damage , Jesse Quick and Argent. The series continued until # 50 in 2002.
This was followed by the Titans / Young Justice : Graduation Day crossover, which led directly to the new Teen Titans series and provided the basis for the new Outsiders series.
The group called Titans LA also existed for a short time with the members Beast Boy, Flamebird, Terra II, Captain Marvel Jr., Bumblebee, Herald, Hero Cruz and Bushido.
Teen Titans from 2003
2003 started a new series with the members Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, Robin , Superboy , Wonder Girl II, Kid Flash II (previously Impulse ). Raven was added in the first editions, as well as Speedy II later .
The new Teen Titans
In 2007, after the Infinite Crisis and the year after (in which over 20 different young superheroes were members of the team, but left it again soon afterwards), a new Teen Titans team with the members Robin III, Cyborg and Raven as well as the new members started Ravager and Jericho (Deathstroke's daughter and son), Kid Devil (Blue Devil's "Sidekick") and Miss Martian (a Martian, despite her white color). There were also two "caretakers" for the Titans Tower, highly intelligent twins who take on general maintenance tasks and who also repaired and completely overhauled the cyborg that was inactive for a year after the Infinite Crisis.
