The University of the Gambia ( Engl. University of The Gambia ) (UTG) is the only public university of the African country Gambia .

The campus

The campus of the university, founded in 1998, is located in Serrekunda - Kanifing , the largest city in Gambia. The university began teaching in March 1999 with around 300 students. In 2002 the faculty comprised 44 people.

The government of Gambia has planned to build a new campus at Faraba Banta .

Faculties

The university is divided into four faculties :

  • Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Information Technology and Communications offering
  • Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital
  • Faculty of Science and Agriculture
