Clinton Darryl "Clint" Mansell (born January 7, 1963 in Coventry , England ) is a British musician and film composer .

Life

Mansell belongs to the young generation of film musicians. His music is dominated by electronic elements, some of which are combined with classical elements, as in his most famous score for Requiem for a Dream , for which he collaborated with the Kronos Quartet .

He began his career as a singer and guitarist for the band Pop Will Eat Itself . He came to film music through his friend, the director Darren Aronofsky . Mansell set Aronofsky's debut Pi to music . Their second collaboration followed immediately: Requiem for a Dream . The score was received positively in many cases and gained even more prominence when the Requiem main theme Lux Aeterna was used in an orchestrated version for the trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers . The title was later also used for the trailers for Zathura - A Space Adventure , The Da Vinci Code - The Da Vinci Code , Babylon AD and Sunshine . The music used in the trailer for the film I Am Legend comes from the film The Fountain and is also very reminiscent of this score, the title here is Fatal Fantasy by the Music Junkies. Further collaborations with director Aronofsky followed.

A remix album from the Requiem soundtrack, to which well-known artists such as u. a. Paul Oakenfold , Josh Wink , Jagz Kooner and Delerium were involved.

Mansell was also part of the choir for the piece Starfuckers, Inc. on the album The Fragile by the Nine Inch Nails .

Mansell also contributed to the soundtrack for the science fiction video game Mass Effect 3 .
