Josh Wink (* 20th April 1970 as Joshua Winkelman ) is an American techno - DJ , musician , record producer , label owner and remixer . He pioneered the American rave scene in the early 1990s and released several international hits including "Don't Laugh" (as Winx), "I'm Ready" (as Size 9) and "Higher State of Consciousness".

Life

Josh Wink, originally from Philadelphia , began DJing in his hometown house clubs in 1987 . In 1990 he released the single “Tribal Confusion” on Strictly Rhythm with King Britt under the project name E-Culture , followed by the maxis single “Strong Song” on his own house label Happy Trax. His starting reputation as a DJ meant that he soon started DJing in New York City . Around 1992 Wink worked mainly as a remixer for various labels , but musically developed increasingly in the direction of techno and acid house . In 1994 he founded the music label Ovum Records together with King Britt .

In the mid-1990s, numerous of his own publications appeared. In 1995 Wink achieved international success with “Don't Laugh”. The title with the distinctive laugh sample is considered one of the greatest hits in the acid house genre. He also caused a stir with the minimal production "Higher State Of Consciousness". Since numerous labels wanted the exclusive rights to Josh Winks productions, he appeared on different labels under slightly different pseudonyms : "Winx", "Wink", "Winc", "Winks" etc.
