Tom Middleton (born August 18, 1971 ) is a British musician, DJ, remixer and record producer, who also became known under pseudonyms like Schizophrenia or E621 .

Together with the musician Mark Pritchard , he has published several albums and singles since 1992 under project names such as Global Communication , Jedi Knights , Link & E621 and Reload .

Life and career

After studying classical music on the piano and cello, Middleton began to focus more on electronic music in 1989. In the same year he met Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin . With this he recorded, among other things, the piece En Trance To Exit , which appeared on the Aphex twin single Analogue Bubblebath in 1991 . In the same year, Middleton's first own single, My Splendid Idea, appeared under the pseudonym Schizophrenia

Middleton became known to a larger audience through his collaboration with the musician Mark Pritchard . First, both released under the project name Reload , which was originally a solo project of Pritchard. The first joint releases such as The Reload EP or The Biosphere EP , the jointly produced pieces were still labeled as Reload & E621 . Soon, however, Middleton became an integral part of the project and the album A Collection Of Short Stories was only released in 1993 under the name Reload .

At the same time, the duo founded the ambient project Global Communication , which was best known for the album 76:14 , which was released on Dedicated in 1994 . The album received mostly good to very good reviews and was described by the critics of The Guardian as an “unfathomably beautiful, timeless masterpiece” on the list of 1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die .

Middleton and Pritchard turned to electro in 1995 with the Jedi Knights project . In the same year the single May The Funk Be With You was released on Clear and in 1996 the album New School Science on Evolution. Between 1997 and 1999 three more singles followed as Jedi Knights .

In 2006 the Reload project released a new album called Evolution . The following year, Middleton's solo album, Lifetracks, was released.

Middleton also released numerous DJ mixes and presented various compilations, such as the Crazy Covers series , which deals with unusual cover versions . He is also known as a prolific remixer who has released well over a hundred remixes both solo and with Pritchard.
