Röyksopp (also spelled Røyksopp ; Norwegian for the Boviste mushroom ; in this case more like atomic mushroom ) is a Norwegian music group consisting of Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland. You are a representative of electronica .
Band history
Berge and Brundtland met as children in their hometown of Tromsø . After school, both initially lost sight of each other, but got back together two years later and founded the Röyksopp group. In 1995 they released their first album .
They released their first singles on the independent label Tellé. After the success of the singles, the group was signed by the British label Wall of Sound . The album Melody AM , published there in 2001, received extremely positive reviews in many magazines and sold over 750,000 copies in a short time. In June 2005, the follow -up album The Understanding was released , followed by the live album Röyksopp's Night Out a year later . The third studio album Junior was only released in March 2009.
The group gained additional international fame because the instrumental piece Eple (norwegian = apple) was played as a sound after the successful installation of the Apple operating system Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and served as an advertising soundtrack for a well-known cosmetics company. What Else Is There was used as background music for an O 2 commercial. At the end of September 2014, Röyksopp announced that after The Inevitable End no further albums would be released. However, they will continue to produce music.
reception
The style of the debut Melody AM was compared to Goldfrapp and Air . It has been named one of the most intriguing downbeat albums of the year. The combination of beeping synthesizers from the 1980s, creaking backbeats and a dreamy voice was praised . The following album, The Understanding , received mixed reviews. On the one hand, a certain lack of orientation between airy sound and poppy pieces was criticized, while New Musical Express characterized the band as the Pink Floyd of melancholy techno, which is suitable for filling huge stadiums. The band's maturation process was also highlighted positively.
The album Junior was released digitally on March 16 and on CD on March 23, 2009; the single Happy Up Here was released at the beginning . This song was previously heard on BBC Radio 1 on January 9, 2009. The music video for Happy Up Here uses graphics from the arcade game Space Invaders . On Junior there are many more disco-heavy pieces that have displaced the melancholy character from the two previous albums with a few exceptions. Only Röyksopp Forever , You Don't Have a Clue and partly Miss It So Much are reminiscent of tones from Melody AM and The Understanding . With artists like Robyn , Fever Ray or Lykke Li , numerous well-known guests are also represented on the album.
