Erlend Øye (born November 21, 1975 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian musician . Øye became known as part of the pop duo Kings of Convenience , which he founded with his school friend Eirik Glambek Bøe in the late 1990s . In 2003 he made his debut as a solo artist.

Live and act

Øye grew up in Bergen with his mother, stepfather and older brother. He met his birth father, an actor from Oslo, when he was ten years old. He took his first musical steps with the band Skog, which he founded with a few friends in the mid-1990s. In 1997 he moved to London and joined the band Peachfuzz. While on vacation in his Norwegian homeland, the idea of performing together with Bøe came up and they founded the Kings of Convenience. The first album of the band, Quiet is the New Loud , was released in 2001. In the same year he was a guest vocalist on the debut album from Röyksopp to hear.

After that, Øye turned more to electronic music and spent the following years in Berlin or traveling around the world. This resulted in his first solo album Unrest , which he recorded in ten cities and published in 2003. Guest musicians include Metro Area , Prefuse 73 and Schneider TM .

As a result, Øye toured as a DJ and launched a mix as part of the DJ Kicks series in 2004 . Erlend Øye was also the head and singer of The Whitest Boy Alive , which released their debut album Dreams in spring 2006 and announced their breakup in June 2014. The reason for the resolution were health problems: “I have had tinnitus, a high-pitched squeaking, for several years. The doctors advised me to play quieter concerts. ”Quieter concerts were not feasible. "Our sound was there for dancing, you can't play it softly."

With an Icelandic reggae band he recorded the 2014 album Legao .

He has lived with his mother in Syracuse, Sicily, since 2012.
