history

Prehistory and early history

Prehistoric and early historical sites have been secured around Rettenbach. A stone ax and a hatchet from the Neolithic Age were found near Aschau and Ruderszell, a stone scraper from the Early Bronze Age at Stocksgrub and Aschau, and beautiful chert fragments, mostly from the Neolithic period, were found in fields near Postfelden, Herrnthann and Bergeshof. Nice discounts were also found in the expansion of the sports field in Rettenbach. All of these are evidence of a very early settlement in the area around Rettenbach.

Place name and Middle Ages

A connection from Wörth to Falkenstein was created when the forest and torrent areas were cleared. Where it went through Ried and Bach, it was called Ober Ried and Bach to Falkenstein . The settlement takes its name from Ried und Bach, although Rotinbach can be translated as clearing on the stream, which is applicable to the time of settlement and clearing. The Bavarian dialect made the common "Rejnbo", while the later documents to be executed speak of "Rotinpach", later Röttenbach and then Rettenbach.

The place is mentioned for the first time in the years 912 and 914. In 912 Bishop Tuto von Regensburg received the Thumbstaufer Forest through a donation. Then the area was cleared and in 914 King Konrad I donated the forest between the Danube and the Regen to the Regensburg Monastery. The bishops of Regensburg are the main bearers of the reclamation of the area.

The parish of Rettenbach was founded in 1383 and the Wörth pastors had the right of presentation to fill the pastor's position. All the names of the parish priests in Rettenbach have been known since 1550. After numerous changes of ownership, Rettenbach belonged to the Counts of Toerring-Jettenbach and was under the sovereignty of the Electorate of Bavaria . Rettenbach was part of the Törringschen rule Falkenstein.

Rettenbach was associated with Falkenstein for most of the time and, like Falkenstein, belonged to Lower Bavaria for a long time. Since the Bavarian dukes remained true to the Catholic faith, the area was not subject to the change of faith during the Reformation, as experienced the neighboring areas of the "Upper Palatinate".

In the time of the great wars of the Middle Ages, the "foresters", as they say in this country, fared like all other members of the empire. It was pillaged, tortured, robbed and battered, many locals lost their lives.

Modern times

After the Törring rule, Rettenbach was bought by the Princes Thurn and Taxis, which they held until 1848. At that time Rettenbach became a Bavarian rural community. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

The population recognized the signs of the times too late, and so the school association, which was ahead of this plan, was rejected. Poetry and songs

Rettenbacher Heimatlied based on the melody by Bayrisch Zell

It is in the beautiful forest, where in the evening the treetops glow red, the spring rushes down cheerfully, the hunter boldly overhears the game, where the Heimatlied sounds so lovely, echoes through the forest and meadows.

||: And this country is home to me and I'm only happy here: ||

The houses are indeed widely scattered, but only good people live in them, and in the villages you trust each other, if you look at you with a good eye, where meadows and fields spread out, the woodsman faithfully does his duty.

||: And this country is home to me and I'm only happy here: || When I look around my forest land, the place where my cradle was, the church tower greets you from the valley, the sound of the bell invites you, and peacefully around the house of God, our dead rest.

||: And this country is home to me and I'm only happy here: || If I take the walking stick in hand, I happily walk uphill, downhill there are dark fir trees on my way, the footbridge leads to the forest chapel, in the Höllbachtal in the rocky bottom I listen to the water for many hours.

||: And this country is home to me and I'm only happy here: || And if I ever have to get away from Z'haus, even into the wide world, I climb to the highest height, where I look down to the Danube, and the forest behind me, I send a prayer to heaven.

||: God protect you dear home, I like to return home to you happy: ||
