Schönthal is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham .

Geographical location

Schönthal is located on the Schwarzach in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park .

Community structure

The municipality of Schönthal consists of the following 19 parts of the municipality:

There are the districts Döfering, Hiltersried, Loitendorf, Trosendorf, Rhan, Premeischl, Schönthal, Thurau, Öd, Flischbach and Steegen. Schönthal shares the Steegen district with the neighboring municipality of Rötz to the west .

history

Until the church is planted

Schönthal belonged to the Schönthal Monastery , which was founded before 1263 .

In 1433 the Battle of Hiltersried took place near Schönthal , in which Johann von Pfalz-Neumarkt drove the Hussites out of the Upper Palatinate.

The place was later part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark of the monastery, which was dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization . In 1818 today's political community was established.

Incorporations

The municipality part of Kleinschönthal was reclassified from the municipality of Döfering in 1946. In 1972 the municipality of Thurau was completely incorporated into Schönthal. On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipalities of Döfering, Hiltersried, Loitendorf and Premeischl, as well as the municipal parts of Flischbach, Flischberg, Niederpremeischl and Öd from the dissolved municipality of Steegen, were incorporated.

Between 1988 and 2018, the municipality grew from 1,888 to 1,949 by 61 inhabitants or 3.2%.

Ludwig Wallinger (* 1946) (CSU) has been mayor since May 1, 1996; he was confirmed in office for a further six years on March 15, 2020 with 91.3% of the vote.

Municipal council

The municipal council (status: local elections on March 15, 2020 ) has 12 elected members and the mayor. Until April 2020, the committee consisted of 14 council members plus mayor; the reduction came about because the population fell below 2,000. The description of the municipal coat of arms reads: In gold over a lowered black wavy bar a red burning heart with four black lightning bolts. The coat of arms has been used since 1982.

In 2017 there were 286 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 748 people were in employment that required insurance. This means that the number of out-commuters was 462 more than that of in-commuters. 31 residents were unemployed. In 2016 there were 76 farms. 2,613 hectares of the communal corridor were used for agriculture.

The Rhanerbräu brewery is located in the Rhan district .

  • two day-care centers with a total of 80 places, in which 64 children were cared for by eight people (as of March 1, 2018)
  • Schönthal primary school with four teachers and 81 students (school year 2018/19)
