Rhan is a district of the community Schönthal in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham ( Bavaria ).

history

Rhan (also: Reuen, Rein, Rhein, Rhän) was mentioned in a document in 1283 as a noble seat of Heinrich the Preu from the family of the violinists from Trausnitz. Rhan is mentioned in the tax book of 1590 as belonging to the Fuchs family. In the middle of the 18th century, Rhan had 16 properties, including a hut.

In 1809 Döfering became one of the 30 tax districts of the Cham Regional Court. The localities Döfering, Wirnetshof, Kleinschönthal, Lixendöfering and Rhan belonged to the Döfering tax district.

On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Rhan belonged to the Döfering branch of the Pemfling parish and had 18 houses and 128 inhabitants. Rhan belonged to the parish Döfering on December 31, 1990 and had 97 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

  • Rhan is home to the Rhanerbräu brewery founded in 1283 . It is one of the five oldest breweries in the world that has been brewing beer continuously since it was founded.
  • The Bruckmeier Chapel is a gable-independent and hipped gable roof building with front pillars and ridge turrets, built in 1923, in the center of the village.
  • The forest chapel is a gable-independent gable roof building with a wooden canopy, built in 1881, renovated in 1905 and 2001. It is located south of Rhan in the forest on the slope of the 636 meter high Fuchshöhe.
