history

Middle Ages and Modern Times

1231 is listed as a place in the oldest Bavarian Duke Surbar in the ampte ze Chamb Niuwenkirchen. This is the first reliable mention of the place Michelsneukirchen. The parish Michaels-Neukirchen already existed in 1236. By the house contract of Pavia in 1329 Michelsneukirchen became a Bavarian border town, the Upper Palatinate ruled by the Palatinate Wittelsbachers was thus foreign for several centuries. In 1621, during the Thirty Years' War, a serious border incident in Michelsneukirchen triggered the conquest of the Protestant Upper Palatinate by Bavarian troops. Then in 1633 the parish village and the surrounding area were plundered and cremated by Swedish troops. After decades of reconstruction, the baroque church was consecrated in 1711 and elaborately decorated in the period that followed. Another landmark of baroque architecture was created in 1750 with the church in Dörfling. The place belonged to the Falkenstein lordship. The Counts Toerring were the owners of this rule from 1664 to 1829 and thus also local lords in Michelsneukirchen. In 1835 the Falkenstein dominion was separated from Lower Bavaria during the territorial reform and assigned to the Upper Palatinate.

20th century

The First World War also left its mark on Michelsneukirchen. It ended with 49 dead and missing.

During the Third Reich, on April 18, 1941, the Polish slave laborer Julian Majka was hanged in the Gehölz am Irlberg near Michelsneukirchen because of a love affair with a German woman. The woman from the village was pregnant by him. The Gestapo Regensburg had concentration camp prisoners from Flossenbürg executed.

Over 80 dead and missing were mourned in World War II, and a stream of displaced people followed the war. In the time after the war the place recovered, so in 1952 an extension to the school house was completed, in 1955 a teacher's house was built, in 1956 the cemetery was reorganized after it was expanded in 1954. In the 1970s, the community also invested in the infrastructure. In 1970 a new school center was inaugurated on the road to Glöcklswies and a parish kindergarten was opened in 1975. In 1986 a new sports field with a company building followed and in 1991 the cemetery was expanded again. Michelsneukirchen was awarded the gold medal at state level in 1980 and 1986 in the competition Our village should become more beautiful .

21st century

In 2000 and 2001, the new construction of the Michelsneukirchen sewage treatment plant was put into operation and the course was set for further investments in infrastructure as well as renewable, environmentally friendly energy, energy-saving technology and broadband supply.

coat of arms

Blazon: split between red and gold; in front a silver flaming sword, behind three slanted black diamonds.

A flaming sword, the attribute of St. Michael, reminds of the patron saint of the church in Michelsneukirchen and is at the same time an eloquent image for the community name. The three black diamonds are taken from the family coat of arms of the Counts of Törring, who belonged to the Falkenstein reign from 1664 to 1829 and who were also local lords of Michelsneukirchen.

The coat of arms has been used since 1974 by resolution of the municipal council and the approval of the Upper Palatinate government.
