Pösing is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham and a member of the Stamsried administrative community .

history
Origin of name
Over the centuries the place name changed from Besinga (896) , Pesinge (1194) , Pesingen (1243) , Pesing (1301) via Poysing (1484) to Pösing (from 1499) .
Prehistory and early history
The first people in the area around Pösing must have been around since the Paleolithic . This is evidenced by finds such as hunting weapons and sacrificial stones in the surrounding districts.
First evidence
- The first documentary mention of Pösing (issued in Regensburg ) took place on August 2nd, 896 as a royal estate (six rural properties) as part of a gift from the East Franconian Emperor Arnulf of Carinthia to the Palatine Chapel with collegiate monastery in Roding .
Middle Ages (time to 1500)
The place belonged to the Rentamt Amberg and to the district court Wetterfeld of the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

- Local nobility: Engelschalk von Pesingen, servant of the St. Emmeram monastery in Regensburg (1190); Ulrich von Pösing (1240), the noble family of Pösing expires (1324).
Modern times
Pösing is also known for the discovery of a hand ax (Riss-Würm interglacial period, approx. 100,000 years ago) on October 11, 1961 in the municipality: " Pösing hand ax ". It consists of honey-colored quartzite , as found here in the river. 1957 Finding a spout ax from the Bronze Age in the Regen river.
At the end of the Second World War in April 1945, the deportation of the concentration camp prisoners from the Flossenbürg concentration camp to the Dachau concentration camp began . A death march led prisoners from Flossenbürg and Rötz via Diebersried to Pösing. Those who could no longer walk or wanted to flee were shot by the guards. The completely exhausted people were driven by SS men with dogs and weapons. 597 dead prisoners were found from Diebersried to Pösing.

Between 1988 and 2018, the community grew from 894 to 983 by 89 inhabitants or 10%.

At the beginning of 2011 91.6% of the population of Pösing were Catholic, 6.9% Protestant and 0.5% belonged to another or no religious community.
Roman Catholic Church
The Catholics belong to the parish in Stamsried, which is assigned to the diocese of Regensburg. In the place there is the Catholic curate beneficiary St. Vitus.
Evangelical Lutheran Church
The Evangelical Christians in Pösing belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community in Roding.

Michael Reith (CSU) has been mayor since May 1, 2020; he was elected with 94.2% of the valid votes. His predecessor was Edmund Roider (CSU) from May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2020.
Municipal council
In addition to the mayor, the council has eight council members. As in the 2014 to 2020 term of office, both nominations received four seats each on March 15, 2020:

The description reads: In blue a silver wave bar, which is covered by a narrow red zigzag bar; a golden crown above, a golden hand ax below. The coat of arms has been in use since 1982.
The crown indicates that Pösing was an old royal estate. The white wavy band symbolizes the rain. The red zigzag bar gives an indication of the various noble families who played a role in Pösing. The hand ax documents a settlement in Pösing 100,000 years ago.
Culture and sights
The “ Regentalaue ”, an area that has been protected for decades and which was designated as a nature reserve on January 22nd, 2010, extends as far as the local border of Pösing . The "Regentalaue" stretches as far as Cham and with 1,427 hectares is by far the largest nature reserve in the Upper Palatinate.

- Catholic parish church of St. Vitus
- First church built around 1000, second church around 1530, almost completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War , third church between 1730 and 1750. In 1750, the brewery couple Schneider from Pösing donated the Pösing benefit. 1820 construction of an organ. 1899 renovation of the church. On January 25, 1901, the Benefician Pösing was converted into a Curate Beneficiary (by the highest resolution of Prince Regent Luitpold ). 1908 purchase of a new organ with eight registers. In 1921/22 the nave was extended by 56 meters to the west. The sacristy was moved from the tower to an annex on the south side. The new organ was inaugurated on January 21, 1996. The church patron is St. Vitus , the two altar figures are the other Bohemian national saints Wenceslaus and Sigismund .

- A big open air takes place in Pösing every year. On the "Bierl", the mountain from which you can see the whole of the Regental, around 3000 fans meet annually on the 3rd weekend in July to celebrate summer and music. The organizer is the Musik- und Kulturverein Pösing e. V., who also organizes some events for the rest of the year.

Economy including agriculture and forestry
In 2017 there were 224 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 417 people were in employment subject to compulsory insurance. This meant that the number of out-commuters was 193 greater than that of in-commuters. 11 residents were unemployed. In 2016 there were 13 farms; 466 hectares of the community area were used for agriculture.

The village is right on the rain . The bridge was built in 1890.
The B 85 passes the village in the immediate vicinity. It is one of the main routes from the Czech Republic. The volume of traffic has been increasing for years. On December 5, 2007, the four-lane expansion between Cham and Untertraubbach was opened to traffic.
Pösing has a stop on the Schwandorf – Furth railway line in the forest .
education and Science
There is a day-care center with 82 places and 78 supervised children, including 12 children under three years of age; the extension with the crèche was completed in 2012.
The children up to the fourth grade attend the Wolfgang-Spießl-Grundschule Stamsried-Pösing.
