Wald is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in the Falkensteiner Vorwald forest and the seat of the Wald administrative community . It is the westernmost municipality in the district.

history

Until the church is planted

Forest belonged to the Amberg Rent Office and the Wetterfeld Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . The Reichenbach Monastery has been unable to enforce its controversial lower court rights over single-layer subjects since the 17th century.

20th and 21st centuries

At the end of the Second World War in April 1945, the death marches of concentration camp prisoners began from the Flossenbürg concentration camp to the Dachau concentration camp. Two prisoners who were able to escape hid in the Bräukeller near Süssenbach until the end of the war . At the time, this served as an air raid shelter. The population in Süssenbach provided them with food. One of the inmates was Timo Pols from the Netherlands, who was appointed by the Americans as spokesman for the community after the war.

In the last few decades the community has carried out numerous projects in the context of village renewal.

Incorporations

In 1945 or 1946, parts of the area of ​​the dissolved municipalities of Buchendorf and Tiefenbach were incorporated. On July 1, 1971 Mainsbauern joined them. Siegenstein and Süssenbach followed on January 1, 1972.

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,358 to 2,887 by 529 inhabitants or 22.4%.

The municipal council consists of 14 councilors and the first mayor. The 2020 local elections brought the following results:

Barbara Haimerl ( CSU ) has been mayor since May 1, 2020 ; it was elected on March 15, 2020 with 50.8% of the valid votes. Her predecessor was Hugo Bauer (CSU) from May 1, 1990 to April 30, 2020.

The municipality of Wald includes the district of Schönfeld, a district with three agricultural properties and a well-preserved Romanesque church from the 12th century, St. Giles .

The theater group "Walder Komödienstadl" emerged in 2000 from a regulars' table. The group is led by Reinhard Hof, who wrote the play "The Devil's Right Hand" for the tenth anniversary.
