The Wochenblatt publishing group goes back to the Landshuter Wochenblatt founded in 1973 by Udo J. Sieber . The publishing group emerged from the merger of three weekly newspaper publishers in 1989. The weekly newspaper is a free weekly newspaper that is financed by advertisements and advertising supplements. The headquarters of the publishing house is in Landshut . The core distribution area is Eastern Bavaria . The circulation is a good 850,000 copies.

The publisher is a partner in the advertising journal group Südbayern .

Editorial focus

Regional and national topics are dealt with in the 18 regional weekly issues. The main editorial offices are located in Landshut, Passau , Regensburg and Altötting and are supported by many small editorial offices spread across the East Bavarian region.

Since July 2010, the Wochenblatt publishing group has also been increasingly active on the Internet, where it publishes a digital daily newspaper with local news from its editorial offices as well as national news. In the online edition, the print editions are available as e-papers .

Embezzlement and bribery

In January 2009 the publisher and managing director of the publishing house Herbert Zelzer was sentenced to eleven months' imprisonment on probation and to a payment of 200,000 euros for embezzlement. The commercial criminal chamber of the Landshut district court saw it as proven that Zelzer paid bribes in the amount of around 400,000 euros to advertisers so that they could place advertisements in the weekly newspaper. Zelzer earned from it as a managing director with a share in sales. The penalties for bribing Zelzer were also considered proven, but this was already time barred.
