Kings of Convenience ( Engl. Kings of convenience ) are a Norwegian band . It is composed of Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Øye . Both were born in 1975 and have known each other since they were 11 years old.

history

Before they founded Kings of Convenience, Øye and Bøe played together in the rock band Skog ( norw. Wald ), which covered songs by the band Joy Division , among others . In 2001 they lived in London for a while . With the record company Source Records they finally released their first album as Kings of Convenience in March 2001 and gave a few small concerts in Germany . A little later a remix album was released with the title Versus .

After that we heard nothing for a while more of them because Erlend Øye after Berlin drew and soon his first solo album Unrest (dt. Restlessness ) recorded, which was published in 2003. But soon Bøe and Øye found the time again to record songs for a new Kings-of-Convenience album, so that in June 2004 they released Riot on an Empty Street (Eng. Tumult on an empty street ).

In October 2009, appeared with Declaration of Dependence (dt. Dependency declaration ) the hitherto last album of the duo. A tour followed, including through Germany, as well as individual appearances at festivals.

style

As the title of the first of them published album Quiet Is the New Loud (dt. Quiet is the new volume ) suggests, peace is the predominant element in their music. The music of the first two albums is reminiscent of the early phase of Simon & Garfunkel , especially because of the combination of acoustic guitars with quiet choir singing . Bøes and Øyes' intention is to tell stories in an atmosphere that is as dense and intense as possible, using calm instrumentation and relatively quiet singing.
