Bebel Gilberto
Bebel Gilberto [ beˈbɛl ʒilˈbɛrtu ] (born May 12, 1966 , New York ; born Isabel Gilberto de Oliveira ) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. She is the daughter of João Gilberto and Miúcha (Heloísa Buarque de Hollanda, Chico Buarque's sister), two greats in the Brazilian music scene .
life and career
Bebel Gilberto began singing in choirs and on records for children as a child, and she also appeared in musicals .
During the 1980s she tried a solo career and worked mainly with Cazuza , but also with other stars of the Música Popular Brasileira . In 1991 she moved to New York, where she worked with David Byrne , Arto Lindsay and DJ Towa Tei and tried to fuse her bossa nova with other styles of music to create new sounds. In 2000, together with the DJ and producer Suba, she released her CD Tanto Tempo , with which she made it into the world music charts . In 2001, to build on the success of their debut CD, Tanto Tempo Remixes was released. In 2004 the album Bebel Gilberto , produced by Marius de Vries , followed , and in 2005 his remixes, in which Thievery Corporation , DJ Spinna and Nuspirit Helsinki were involved, among others .
Her songs Samba da Benção , Tanto Tempo and Mais Feliz were part of the score for the film Hautnah .
