Red Hot + Rio is a compilation album by the New York AIDS aid organization Red Hot Organization from 1996.

On the album, the musical styles of Rio de Janeiro are combined with international, modern musical styles. This happens with unusual duets and collaborations, as well as with musically novel concepts. The mixture of traditional acoustic instrumentation and contemporary electronic sounds was above all a bow to the bossa nova , whose cheerful, melancholy, lively-jazzy music, especially from the pen of Tom Jobim , has been going around the world since the 1960s.

The CD is the 7th of the 16 benefit albums published by the Red Hot Organization to support AIDS aid projects around the world . The album caused a stir in the international music scene and created the breeding ground for trends such as Brazilectro from groups such as Zuco 103 . It had less commercial success than its predecessor Red Hot + Blue , but received more attention than the later successor Red Hot + Lisbon , which was conceived with a similar idea, or the later CD Red Hot + Rio 2 .
